Children's picture book about surrealism
Some people wear hats
Some people wear crowns
And then… there’s Pablo.
For reasons unknown (and perhaps unknowable), Pablo strolls through his village with a fish on his head. Naturally, this raises a few eyebrows. Why a fish? Why his head? Why not?
Inspired by a spontaneous moment of childhood play and the dreamlike genius of René Magritte, this bizarre rhyming tale celebrates those who dare to be different.
A surreal, captivating adventure for the wildly imaginative and the grown-ups who never stopped questioning the ordinary.
Philosophy behind the book:
This picture book is like an ogre, in that it is like an onion, in that it has many layers to it. Yes, it is a fun rhyming story about a fellow named Pablo with a fish on his head. But it is also about surrealism as an art-form and philosophy and introduces kids to that weird and wonderful concept.
It borrows some style and themes from Rene Magritte to do that. But under all of this it is a book about individualism and self esteem and doing what you want without concern for others opinions. About not following the trends but rather doing your own thing and making the trends that others follow because you stayed true to yourself. Imagine what the world would be like if we were all brave enough to put that metaphorical fish on our heads. And it goes well over a reggae infused beat too.
Why you'll love it:
- It celebrates individuality and weirdness in the best possible way- because being different isn't just okay, it's awesome
- Encourages creative thinking and playful storytelling - there's no 'right' way to see the world
- Bright, quirky illustrations that match the wonderfully bizarre energy of the story
Ideal for kids aged 4-8 and art lovers
